Biography

Julia Pace Mitchell is a formally trained actress, having earned her Masters of Fine Arts from The National Theatre Conservatory and her BFA in Theatre from Howard University in Washington, D.C. Known for her range, Julia also studied classical theatre at Oxford University in England and improvisational comedy with The Groundlings in Los Angeles.

Julia has worked steadily, landing a coveted string of roles on stages across the country, from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to New York’s Hip-Hop Theatre Festival. She has worked with Nuyorican Poets Café, Arena Stage, The Classical Theater of Harlem, The Kansas City Repertory, and the Arizona Repertory. She was featured in The McCarter Theatre’s production of “Stick Fly,” and shined brightly in “The Ohio State Murders” at The Duke on New York City’s famed 42nd Street, which received a Lucille Lortel Award for Best Revival.

A true artist, Julia has received multiple NAACP Theatre Award nominations for her work as a playwright; for her one-woman show, “The Interview,” and for “The Hills Above the Hood” – which won her Backstage West Awards for Best New Playwright, Best New Director, and Best Performance.

In 2009, Julia was featured in the highly-anticipated Fox Searchlight biopic of the late rapper Biggie Smalls, “Notorious.” She appeared opposite Aaron Eckhart in the 2007 independent film, “Meet Bill.” She was seen in the 2010 action film, “Faster,” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Her television credits include guest starring roles on “The Closer” (TNT), “Cold Case” (CBS), “Chappelle’s Show” (Comedy Central), “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (NBC), “Law & Order” (NBC), and “Strong Medicine” (Lifetime).

You may also recognize Julia without her shirt in the very popular national “Playtex Fits” bra commercials and print ad campaign. She was the voice of Sherice on MTV’s hit, “The Hard Times of RJ Berger.” Julia co-starred on the #1 daytime drama on television, CBS’s “The Young & the Restless,” portraying Sofia Winters, a confident, no-nonsense business executive, a role for which she was nominated for two consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in Daytime Drama. She most recently can be found in the Facebook Watch show Airport Security Squad starring world-renowned comedian Anwar Jibawi.

The daughter of actress Judy Pace and actor Don Mitchell, and stepdaughter of baseball great Curt Flood, the Los Angeles native is a mother loves to travel, cook, attend theatrical shows, and support all forms of the arts.
